According to a study by the National Education Association (NEA), field trips significantly enhance learning. In addition to increasing student engagement and motivation, they create lasting memories, offer valuable hands-on experiences, and foster a deeper understanding of lessons taught in the classroom. At Empower College Prep (ECP), the tuition-free K-12 charter school preparing scholars for college and beyond, field trips are integral to the education we offer.
Our Trips are Local, National, and International
Starting in Kindergarten, the field trips we offer help scholars understand the theoretical concepts they learn in the classroom through real life experiences. And they’re a lot of fun!
Our list of field trips includes visits to:
- S’edev Va’aki (formerly Pueblo Grande) Museum (Social Sciences)
- OdySea Aquarium (Life Sciences)
- Arizona Mills (Entrepreneurship/Economics)
- Castles and Coasters (Physical Sciences)
- Phoenix Zoo (Life Sciences)

Beginning in 3rd grade, ECP scholars are inspired and invested in the vision to thrive in college. Middle School scholars do overnight visits to universities throughout the state to get a sense of campus life. Middle and high schoolers not only visit each major Arizona university, and they also travel throughout the southwest to tour more universities in the region.
The work in class and shared experiences outside of the classroom reap benefits for ECP scholars. Members of the Class of 2025 collectively earned nearly $2 million dollars to attend universities throughout the state and country.
Our Trips are Inspirational and Fun!
This year many seniors celebrated their graduation with a trip to Disneyland. ECP Senior Trips also include visits to San Diego, Washington, D.C., and Europe. Students often pick trips based on their career aspirations. The trip to San Diego is more appealing to students interested in Biomed or STEM. The trips to Disneyland and Washington, D.C. draw students interested in business/entrepreneurship, leadership, and international studies (B.L.I.S.) The trip to Europe attracts students interested in B.L.I.S. and fine arts, music, and entertainment (F.A.M.E.)
Scholars develop these career interests through career trips throughout their time at ECP. The school’s career pathways program inspires students to pursue in-demand careers as they engage in career trips, including:
