At ECP We Partner with Parents

When families are involved in their child’s school experience, research shows that students improve their academic performance. At Empower College Prep (ECP), the K-12 tuition-free, values-based public charter school, we partner with parents to lead children to discover and develop their unique gifts, maximize their full human potential, and fulfill their responsibility to positively impact their world.

Partnering with Families Supports Our Scholars

“[At Empower College Prep] not only do they support the kids, they help to support and encourage parents as well in addition to having resources to help them.” – Parent review, niche.com

Empower College Prep is committed to ensuring all students have an equal opportunity to attain an education that provides abundant opportunities in life. Our emphasis on supporting a diverse student body has many benefits including meeting the needs of every family member.

The ECP Student Social Services team supports the families of scholars in order to remove any barriers to academic success by providing services through site-based and community-based partnerships.

“We provide additional resources and connections to community-based organizations that will provide resources like food, clothing, and housing – things that support the overall health and success of a student and their family.” – Natalina Mariscal, LMSW, ECP Director of Student Social Services

“I’m thankful that ECP has provided us with uniforms, shoes, hygiene products, and referrals to community services. Even my kids who are not ECP students have been connected to support.” – Mom of ECP 1st grader

Empower College Prep helps families in need with

  • weekly distribution of food bags
  • provision of clothing and uniforms, including shoes
  • distribution of personal care products

In addition to connecting families with community-based organizations, ECP Social Services offers social emotional support through small group learning within the school.

“These groups reflect what the students look like and who they are, which helps normalize the kiddos’ experiences, so they don’t feel like they’re the only ones experiencing something.” – Natalina Mariscal, LMSW, ECP Director of Student Social Services

Connecting and Communicating

At Empower College Prep scholars are building relationships with each other, their teachers, school leaders, and our staff. They recognize this is a safe place for them because we offer security and connection.

Our teachers maintain contact with parents through our online platform, through texting, and through ParentVUE which gives families access to assignments, grades, and attendance.

“Empower College Prep’s teachers and staff develop deep relationships with their students and families. Yesterday, we got a video of our 3rd grader leading his class in explaining his approach to a Math problem. They truly live up to their name of empowering children and empowering families!” – Parent review, niche.com

During the year we schedule activities for families here on campus including parent/teacher conferences, open houses, and social events. Off campus, ECP staff visit families in their neighborhoods where we host events like Snack Chats, informal town halls within the community where we talk about the value of an Empower College Prep education while serving pizza to all who attend.

College and Career Counselors host FAFSA Nights to help our seniors and their families navigate the process of applying for college scholarships and financial aid. This isn’t a one-time event. We follow up every month with student check-ins and parent meetings to facilitate the process of identifying and applying for scholarships. Annually ECP seniors are awarded $1-$2 million dollars in scholarships for college, an award of at least $35,000 per student. As a result our alumni are attending schools from California to New York.

ECP is eager to partner with you and prepare your child for college and beyond. We’re still enrolling for the 2024-25 school year, but hurry before classes fill up. Contact us today so your family can join our family.
